Apollogic at Startup Weekend Poznań Smart City!
Another edition of Start-up Weekend Poznań Smart City is over! And of course, we had to be there! The place overflows with creativity, fresh ideas and is open to new technologies
Why is it worth it?
Start-up Weekend Poznań Smart City is a fantastic opportunity to create and develop technological projects is a fantastic opportunity to create and develop technological projects, aimed at amending the comfort of life in the city. The proposed solutions are created on the basis of the Design Thinking technique: it is a concept of creating innovative products and services, basing on thorough knowledge of problems and needs of the users. Furthermore, the event propagates the idea of “business model thinking”, and using the Business Model Canvas” template which consists of 9 basic areas ingrained in the process of making money by an organisation. Ideas, which the participants are going to collect, using the Design Thinking concept, and present using Business Model Canvas, can then be consulted with experienced mentors.
Our employees also participated in the event which lasted 54 hours. Szymon Mydlarz, who is a UX Designer and Product Manager at Apollogic, implemented a project under the heading of “The Heat.” The solution assumed creating an application based on maps which would provide knowledge about the density of the crowd in a given place in real-time, and inform about events in place at a given area. You must admit that the idea based on the GPS navigation technology seems really useful!
Our big data consultant, Marcin Siudziński, worked on the concept of Power Banks. The project assumes making special tools available in retail networks, which would be helpful in recharging dying batteries in smart phones and other mobile devices.
Maciej Rygielski who, apart from being a Business Software Architect at Apollogic, also manages a team of programmers, worked on an interesting solution. Together with this team, he created an application which aimed at helping parents change a baby’s nappy, as well as helping the disabled in finding a toilet adapted to their needs. The solution, using the GPS navigation, has become a reaction to the needs of inhabitants of Poznań complaining about difficulties in finding suitable toilets. A smart and intuitive UX was a distinctive feature of this application.
I appreciate the Start-up Weekend Poznań Smart City, first of all because it gives a chance to consult experienced mentors and to disseminate the Design Thinking and Business Model Canvas techniques. The Weekend is geared towards implementation of concepts are useful for everyone living in the city of Poznań. During this event I met ambitious and resourceful people, and the organisers made sure that the atmosphere was friendly and open, fostering creative ideas, says our Product Manager Szymon Mydlarz.
Thank you, Startup Weekend! We are looking forward to another edition of this event
