SAP and Google cooperation – technological giants as strategic partners
After announcing a partnership with Apple, SAP informed about the launch of strategic partnership with another technology giant, Google. The news was posted in March at Google’s Cloud Next event in San Francisco. What does SAP and Google cooperation mean in practice? What is it in it for both parties?
SAP products available in the Google cloud
Google is making their cloud infrastructure available to SAP under the IAAS (Infrastructure as a Service) principle. This means that the Google cloud will not physically be installed in SAP departments. The technology giant will make it available in the form of hardware, software, and servicing.
As a result, flagship SAP products and applications will now be available on the Google Cloud Platform. SAP connects the Google cloud with its SAP HANA super-efficient database. It is a platform performing computations in the operational memory which allows for their substantial acceleration. It makes it possible to receive key information almost in real time. With the use of Google infrastructure, the SAP HANA computations will be even more accelerated.
SAP and Google cooperation – future plans
The companies have been working on making the SAP Cloud Platform (formerly SAP HANA Cloud Platform) available on the Google Cloud Platform as PaaS (Platform as a Service). SAP cloud applications are to be also included in the platform. Until now they have been available on the SAP App Center.
In addition, the companies have announced plans to integrate SAP solutions with applications such as Gmail and Google Calendar. This will help companies optimize daily business processes and increase user productivity.
Moreover, the companies have started working together on machine learning. Details will be revealed at the SAP conference in May. The purpose of this project is to enable customers’ insight into the desired information in real time. This will be possible thanks to the use of Big Data operations on a huge, unprecedented scale. Partners plans also include automation of SAP product updates. Currently, they are performed by IT Administrators manually.
This collaboration shows that the largest Internet companies like Apple and Google not only focus on private users. They are boldly moving towards acquiring corporate clients.
