Virtual Surgery Intelligence (VSI) is a solution that increases the precision of a surgeon during surgery by displaying virtual CT/MRI images in 3D inside HoloLens glasses. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are combined with the surgical area. The environment is still visible and virtual objects are displayed in real space.
Jakub Własny, Mixed Reality Team Leader in Apollogic, talks about his participation in SAP NOW 2019
Invitation to SAP NOW was the result of our victory in the InnovMatch competition. The organizers wanted to introduce a little startup spirit to the agenda; that`s why we had a chance to present our project on the main stage of the event during the opening block. Before that, we had an opportunity to hear about innovations in business by recognized managers of Czech companies – among others Hana Souckova, CEO of SAP ČR and Zbyněk Frolík, CEO of LINET and one of the wealthiest Czechs. Another topic touched CSR, precisely the issue of including people with autism disorders in the work environment.
In our presentation, we focused on the way from the world of business applications to innovative areas of mixed reality, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. Paweł Skiba talked about the beginnings of Apollogic and how the company grew from a small team of consultants to a group of 130 experts in many fields. I spoke about our beginnings with HoloLens glasses and how we found ourselves in the world of medicine. I introduced the viewers to the challenge of working with two-dimensional medical images for doctors and how the VSI application addresses them.

SAP NOW organizers have planned time for demonstrating innovative solutions to conference participants.
Virtual Surgery Intelligence – a new dimension in surgery
Virtual Surgery Intelligence (VSI) is intelligent medical software for surgeons based on mixed reality and artificial intelligence. VSI enables, among others, displaying medical images (e.g., MRI, CT) in the form of 3D holograms on Microsoft HoloLens glasses and cooperation between a doctor and a patient. The application aims to make it easier for the doctors to plan operations and to conduct them faster and more safely.
We believe that VSI will improve the daily work of medical data professionals and support them in a wide range of healthcare processes. Patient consultations, telemedicine and education, all of which we can handle from a single device in mixed reality.
In the next part of the presentation we showed the possible applications of VSI, technologies used during its construction and our vision for the future of the project. In the end, we invited the participants to see with their own eyes how VSI works. From the moment of leaving the stage, throughout the day we presented the application to dozens of interested visitors. We had many exciting conversations and established contacts with representatives of companies interested in Apollogic’s offer.

VSI application tested by Hana Součková, SAP Managing Director in the Czech Republic.
VSI is the result of cooperation between interdisciplinary teams working in the field of new technologies. The product has been created within the apoQlar brand, focused on the use of mixed and enriched reality for medical applications. An essential part of the solution is artificial intelligence algorithms, which are the domain of theBlue.ai team. RapidLab supports in integration with other devices and in building our own. Everything is supervised by Apollogic, with a vast experience in business development and IT.
SAP NOW is a space for exchanging experiences with industry experts and other enthusiasts of the latest technologies. A rich set of workshops, presentations and live demo is an excellent opportunity to learn about trends and good practices, not only for people associated with SAP.
