As a result of strong windstorms which passed through Poland during the last weeks, the shelter in Przyborówko, Rusiec and Brodziszewo was heavily affected. The roof was blown off, animal kennels, fences and wickets were also damaged. Fortunately, none of the animals was harmed. As we have been supporting the Przytulisko u Wandy for years, when we read the volunteers’ online appeal and found out about the scale of the losses, we did not think long and rushed to help.

Together we repaired a damaged fence, put up a new enclosure, and rearranged the dog kennels so that they would not pose a threat to the residents. The shelter volunteers welcomed us with kind words, hosted us for lunch, and offered to exchange phone numbers.
I adopted a dog from a shelter and know how frightened animals can be when weather conditions are harsh. The damage caused by the windstorms has driven us to rebuild places where dogs and cats can feel safe.

Facing the damage caused by the windstorm, supporting the shelter, which itself helps a huge number of stray animals on a daily basis, seemed to be the right move. Besides, I was inspired by the actions of my colleagues, who more often get involved in similar initiatives.

The fact that my apartment is warm and tidy I consider a comfort that everyone deserves. The perspective of helping animals in a friendly atmosphere (during breaks, you could pet the dogs and enjoy home cooking) was a pleasant change from the "standard" Saturday afternoon.

The animal shelters in Przyborówko, Rusiec and Brodziszewo provide refuge for many homeless animals. Apart from material help and adopting a dog or a cat, you can support them financially by donating 1% of your tax to the Foundation “Przytulisko u Wandy”. For more information, visit the shelter’s website.
