The whole SAP world is watching how User Experience constantly evolves with new SAP Fiori releases. Despite minor updates, which come with each SAPUI5 update, the biggest buzz recently has been of course generated by Fiori 3.0, which was promised to make day-to-day business operations even easier and more user-oriented than before! Let’s dive deep in pure facts: what is now public to all and what should we still wait for?
First mentions of SAP Fiori 3.0 date back to late 2018 and rapidly got a lot of attention. Expectations towards new SAP product reached to the top after TechEd conference, where Emil Voutta – Vice President, SAP Design at SAP – presented plan for Fiori 3.0. You can find our thoughts and expectations from an early stage of discovery here.
What benefits does SAP Fiori 3.0 bring?
What was then foretold, became a reality in 2019. First in April, as on 25th new version of SAPUI5 library was published. Apart from standard fixes and minor features, with 1.65 version something unexpected came live: „Quartz Light” theme. Constant SAP cooperation with User Experience designers resulted in the new definition of usability and effectiveness. Once again, we can see that trends of minimalism and light color pallet are becoming more and more powerful in terms of providing easy to use software environment. This enables customers to have shorter trainings and more productivity, keeping up with the newest technologies at the same time!
SAP Fiori 3.0 available with SAP S/4HANA Cloud 1908 and SAP S/4HANA 1909
The next big step in Fiori 3.0 development was releasing it as an integral part of SAP S/4HANA Cloud 1908 and SAP S/4HANA 1909 releases. This was a clear signal towards presented roadmap expectations: clear and unified frontend design across all SAP products. We hope to see more news in this field.
So, the new „Quartz Light” theme is out. But is it all that we can expect from Fiori 3.0 as a product? Definitely not. What we could see on TechEd presentation was far more beyond just theme. We still cannot wait for full functionality of CoPilot – an intelligent assistant which would be capable of communicating with user using natural language, and also performing certain tasks using available Fiori applications (ie. creating purchase orders, sending emails, decision making). When will it be live? This question unfortunately as for now stays unanswered.
